!00 ART Photography Vol.4 is an incredible milestone, marking the third year of activity for this project, which was strongly driven by NNC Gallery featuring artists and curator Vanessa Rusci.
About the artists:
This issue features three artists from our gallery, winners of our annual Challenges:
Sharon Alviz from Colombia, the Italian artist Vetroviola, and Odirile Makaku from South Africa. Sharon Alviz is an artist who describes herself as a healer, believing in the power of images to evolve and liberate. Her project has been showcased by our gallery in international competitions, demonstrating both aesthetic and conceptual excellence. Vetroviola presents a project dedicated to women, combining an incredible pop aesthetic sense. Odirile Makaku offers an experimental blend of illustration and photography, exploring both color and composition to tell the story of his world and the challenges of his homeland.
We also feature Yuma Nishimura from Japan, an artist who presents an installation where the audience is encouraged to touch the images. This intriguing photographic exploration delves into themes related to contact and relationships. Alongside him is Shane Balkowitsch from North Dakota, USA, who creates ambrotypes, rejecting digital photography in favor of an impressive body of work depicting Native Americans using traditional techniques.
On the opposite end, we showcase Photonix from Australia, who produces images exclusively through digital means. By using self-generated code, Photonix creates virtual environments and "photographs" them, resulting in highly aesthetic and captivating imagery.
Additionally, Vincenzo Cohen, an Italian interdisciplinary artist, presents work that is not only beautiful but also offers a critical reflection on the desertification of Africa and the impact of human activity on nature. Viet Van Tran from Vietnam, a familiar name in our gallery, makes his second appearance with a smart and innovative project that explores the relationship between photography and storytelling, demonstrating aesthetic, conceptual, and social awareness in the use of photography.
Saulo Taveira from Brazil brings a research project focused on the body and light. His visually stunning and significant work continues to explore the relationship between the body and photography, promoting and defending the freedom that this medium offers.
Last but not least, John Boudreau, an American artist from Los Angeles—a painter and photographer—presents his exploration of Photo Symbolism, a continuous quest for spirituality and art.
